St Edward’s School celebrates a century of light, legacy & learning
St Edward’s School, Shimla, continued its centenary celebrations with great fervour, marking the Feast Day of its Patron, St Edward, under the theme “A Legacy That Endures”. The day honoured a hundred years of faith, service and excellence that have shaped generations of Edwardians.
The celebrations began with the hoisting of the school flag and a ceremonial welcome by NCC cadets for the distinguished guests — Aniruddh Bishop Sahaya, His Lordship Bishop Ignatius L Mascarenhas, Rev Fr Ambrose and Rev Fr Angulus. The rhythmic march past by the NCC and the school band set a tone of pride and reverence for the historic occasion.
Highlights of the day included the Time Capsule Ceremony, an alumni march past accompanied by the Police Band and the formal handover of the school flag to the School Cabinet — a symbolic gesture of leadership and continuity. The inauguration of the Memorial Park paid tribute to the school’s rich heritage, while an art exhibition and a festive fête organised by the Outreach Club showcased the creativity, innovation and community spirit of students. The cultural programme in the school auditorium beautifully captured the school’s centenary journey through dance, music and inspiring messages of service and hope.
Adding to the centenary splendour, the school hosted “Lumen Sequere — To Follow the Light” on Sunday evening in its historic hall. The chief guest, Bishop Ignatius L Mascarenhas, inaugurated the event by planting a sapling and unveiling the statue of Blessed Edmund Rice — a poignant tribute symbolising hope, faith and the enduring Edwardian spirit.
The evening’s cultural segment featured a touching student introduction honouring Bishop Edward Kenealy and the Irish Christian Brothers, whose vision a century ago laid the foundation for this institution. The audience was enthralled by a stage adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and a dance presentation titled “Lumen”, both celebrating the triumph of light over darkness and the resilience of the human spirit. Outstanding achievers of the Class X Board Examinations (2024-25) were also felicitated.
In his address, Bishop Mascarenhas praised St Edward’s for its century-long contribution to holistic education and moral formation, urging students to be torchbearers of truth, compassion and service. The celebration concluded as a proud tribute to the school’s enduring legacy — one that continues to illuminate hearts and minds with the light of knowledge and faith.
