OTT & Theatre releases this week: The Pet Detective, Bison, Black Phone 2 | October 13, 2025 to October 19, 2025

This week, from October 13 to October 19, 2025, will see Diwali special releases from primarily Malayalam, Tamil, and Hollywood. Here's the list of major releases on streaming and big screen. 

THEATRE RELEASES

The Pet Detective - Oct. 16 

Sharafudheen and Anupama Parameshwaran lead a crime comedy where a pet detective and his ladylove become embroiled in situations involving criminals. Directed by debutant Praneesh Vijayan, the film is co-written by  Praneesh and Jai Vishnu. Mukundan Unni Associates director Abhinav Sunder Nayak has handled the editing.

Theatre: The Myth of Reality - Oct. 16

Rima Kallingal stars in Biriyaani director Sajin Baabu's latest film, which is said to be have magical realist elements. Kallingal won the Kerala Film Critics award for Best Actress for the film which co-stars Sarasa Balussey, Dains Davis and Pramod Veliyanad, among others.

Bison - Oct. 17

An intense sports and crime drama rolled into one, Bison marks Dhruv Vikram's first collaboration with filmmaker Mari Selvaraj (Pariyerum Perumaal, Karnan). Also starring in the film are Anupama Parameshwaran, Rajisha Vijayan, Pasupathy, Lal and Ameer Sultan, among others.

Dude - Oct. 17

Starring Pradeep Ranganathan (Dragon, Love Today) and Mamitha Baiju (Premalu, Super Sharanya), the film directed by Keerthiswaran explores the tale of a flawed protagonist and his complex, life-changing relationship with a woman who comes with her share of hidden baggage.

Diesel - Oct. 17

Harish Kalyan, Vinay Rai, and Athulyaa Ravi headline the film which revolves around an illegal fuel racket, underworld operations, and business rivalry. Shanmugham Muthusamy's thriller has Harish Kalyan playing the head of the fuel racket and Vinay Rai as the cop assigned to bring him down.

Black Phone 2 - Oct. 17

The 2022 original, Director Scott Derrickson returns with the sequel to his surprise 2022 hit, which sees the return of Ethan Hawke, who played the villain in the first feature. Hawke is joined by Miguel Mora, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw and Jeremy Davies who reprise their roles, with Demian Bichir joining the cast. 

OTT RELEASES:

Loot: Season 3 - Oct. 15 - Apple TV

Emmy award winner Maya Rudolph returns as Molly Wells in the third season of the comedy series. The first two episodes of will premiere on Oct. 15, followed by a weekly episode until the finale on Dec. 10. Season 3 will continue her adventures after the awkward manner in which the character wrapped up the last season.

Final Destination: Bloodlines - Oct. 16 - JioHotstar

The sixth instalment of the popular horror movie franchise revolves around a college student who inherits visions of a previous premonition averting a deadly structural collapse from her grandmother, and is warned that Death is coming for her family. The film, released fourteen years after the last installment in the series, is a “re-imagining” of the franchise.

The Diplomat: Season 3 - Oct. 16 - Netflix

According to Netflix's official logline, Season 3 will explore Kate's (Keri Russell) attempts to seek the vice presidency and complicated encounters with the Foreign Secretary, the First Gentleman, and other characters who carry over the after-effects of tumultuous events from the previous season. 

How to Train Your Dragon - Oct. 13 - JioHotstar 

The live-action remake of the animated original, the film is based on the books of the same name by Cressida Cowel. Writer-director Dean DeBlois, who made the animated trilogy, made his live-action debut with this version which also did big business at the box office.
