Ex-minister says officers being made scapegoats to save BJP government
Former Haryana Minister for Home Affairs, Law and Justice Subhash Batra on Tuesday expressed deep concern and anguish over the manner the suicide case of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar was being dealt with by the Haryana Government. In a press statement issued here, senior Congress leader stated that top IPS and IAS officers, including the Chief Secretary and the DGP, were being made scapegoats to save the BJP Government in Haryana.
He stated that Puran Kumar was transferred before the registration of the FIR against his gunman. Batra maintained that Puran Kumar could not have been transferred without the concurrence of the state government.
The former Home Minister stated that the BJP government could not escape its responsibility in the high-profile matter by making the senior IAS and IPS officers the scapegoats.
Batra demanded that a thorough and high-level inquiry be conducted by the CBI or a sitting High Court Judge under the supervision of the Supreme Court in view of the gravity of the matter.
The senior Congress leader stated that he and his party stood firmly with the family of the deceased IPS officer and strict possible legal action should be taken against those who forced him to take the extreme step.
But at the same time, he also maintained that no injustice should be done under pressure to those senior IPS and IAS officers named in the FIR registered regarding the matter as they also had sound credentials and impeccable service record.
He said the sentiments of the aggrieved family should be respected, but the dignity of the IAS and IPS officers should also be maintained.
The former minister also expressed dismay at the matter being given a caste colour by vested political and other interests.
The Congress leader said that the opposition parties should not politicise the matter, but make a joint effort to press the BJP government to order a high-level inquiry so that the aggrieved family as well as the accused officers get justice.
