Tamil Nadu Box Office news: Record theatrical deal for Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan'

With less than three months left for Pongal, Vijay's Jana Nayagan has already fired its first shot as far as pre-release business is concerned.

 

The theatrical rights in Tamil Nadu for Jana Nayagan has been sold at a reportedly all-time record price in the state. The buyer and official amount hasn't been revealed yet. If this stands true, it would mean Vijay beating his own record as far as theatrical rights go.

 

The Greatest Of All Time, Vijay's 2024 release, held the previous record for biggest theatrical rights in Tamil Nadu. The film was valued at Rs 75 crore and went on to gross over Rs 200 crore in the state, upholding the actor's phenomenal stardom at the box office.

 

Romeo Pictures had acquired the Venkat Prabhu-directorial and are rumoured to be the frontrunners to distribute Jana Nayagan as well, although an official confirmation on this is awaited.

 

Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, had been slated for a Pongal 2026 release but the unfortunate events at Vijay's TVK Party rally in Karur caused a temporary confusion about the film's release date.

 

Soon after the rally, there had been relentless negativity on social media and the film's producers KVN Productions also indefinitely put the promotional activities in hold. This generated a strong rumour about a possible postponement for Jana Nayagan, especially with the political climate seeming uncertain.

 

However, the latest update from trade circles is that the film will release for Pongal 2026 as initially planned with no chances of postponement. Reports suggest that Jana Nayagan's promotions shall officially kick-off once Vijay returns from his planned visit to Karur.

 

As no details are available presently about the dates of his Karur visit, the corresponding promotional activities also remain under wraps. Speculations are that he could be visiting Karur by October 17-18 although a public confirmation is awaited from the party sources.

 

Jana Nayagan is slated to release on 9th January 2026 and will be clashing against Prabhas' horror-comedy film Raja Saab that will be a pan-Indian release across all languages. In Tamil Nadu, however, Jana Nayagan is expected to dominate, at least in the initial week.
