Delhi double murder: Ex-lover kills pregnant woman, her husband kills him

Shalini, a 22-year-old woman who was pregnant, was stabbed to death by her ex-live-in partner on Saturday on the Qutub road in Delhi’s Nabi Klarim area while she was with her husband. In the fight that followed, Aakash, her husband, killed the attacker, police said on Sunday.
The woman, who was a mother of two, was travelling with her husband, Akash, to meet her mother. Aashu alias Shailendra, who was a past ex-live-in partner to Shalini, appeared and attacked the two on the road. Shalini was inside a rickshaw when Aashu attacked Akash.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Nidhin Valsan said "Akash managed to dodge the first blow, but Aashu then turned towards Shalini, who was seated in an e-rickshaw, stabbed her multiple times."
Akash had tried to rescue his wife but was stabbed in the process. He later managed to overpower the man and snatched his knife to stab him in the scuffle.
Shalini’s brother and some locals took the three to the hospital. There, both Shalini and Aashu were declared dead. Akash is still receiving treatment.
The entire scene took place in the public, spreading panic among locals.
Shalini was found to be pregnant at the time of death, police said. Her mother said that the couple’s marriage was strained a few years ago, during which her daughter entered into a live-in relationship with Aashu. Later, she reconciled with her husband and returned to live with him and their two children, the DCP said.
Aashu, who was claiming to be the father of the unborn child, was enraged by her decision. Sources said that Shalini insisted that Akash was the father of the child.
According to officials, he was listed as a Bad Character at the Nabi Karim Police Station and had previous police records. Aakash too had three criminal involvements in the past.
A case has been registered based on Shalini's mother, Sheila's complaint, under sections 103-1 (murder) and 109-1 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
