'The Social Network' sequel: Jeremy Strong's Mark Zuckerberg to be different from Jesse Eisenberg's in 'The Social Reckoning'

Jeremy Strong was recently confirmed to star in The Social Reckoning, the sequel to David Fincher's award-winning hit The Social Network, as Mark Zuckerberg. With Aaron Sorkin, who wrote the original, in the director's chair this time, the film will be set 17 years later, with Strong set to play an older version of the Facebook head.
In an interaction with The Hollywood Reporter at the 5th annual Academy Museum Gala at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Strong revealed that his performance will be very different from that of Jesse Eisenberg, who played Zuckerberg in the Fincher film. "I think that has nothing to do with what I’m going to do,” said the Succession star, adding, "It’s one of the great scripts I’ve ever read. It speaks to our time, it touches the third rail of everything happening in our world. It’s a great character — fascinating, complex — and I’m approaching it with great care and empathy and objectivity. I’ve made two films with Aaron (The Trial of the Chicago 7, Molly’s Game) and third time’s the charm.”
The film will release in theatres on Oct. 9, 2026.
The original cast members are not returning this time around.
Produced jointly by Sorkin, Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser, the new film will be based on 'The Facebook Files', a series of articles written by former Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, who is said to be the lead character alongside Frances Haugen, the data engineer-turned-whistleblower who called out some of the company's disagreeable practices.
Mikey Madison ("Anora") and Jeremy Allen White ("The Bear") have been confirmed for the parts of Haugen and Horwitz, respectively.
There is buzz from different corners that the film would be along the lines of acclaimed whistleblower dramas like The Insider and Spotlight.
Madison took home the Best Actress trophy at this year's Oscars for Anora. Meanwhile, White was recently seen in the fourth season of the immensely popular show The Bear, and will be seen next in the Bruce Springsteen biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere. Interestingly, Strong plays Springsteen's manager Jon Landau in the film.
