Bangladesh vs West Indies, 2nd ODI: 50 overs of spin as Windies set world record in Mirpur

Bangladesh are known to produce spinning surfaces that deteriorate extravagantly but even they would have been surprised by what transpired during the second ODI against West Indies in Mirpur on Tuesday (October 21). Having lost the toss, the tourists proceeded to create a world record with the ball.
All 50 overs of Bangladesh's innings were bowled by spin on a used surface that had cracks aplenty. West Indies played three specialist spinners in Akeal Hosain, Gudakesh Motie and Khary Pierre with the part-time spin of Roston Chase and Alick Athanaze giving skipper Shai Hope more slow-bowling options on a dusty pitch.
This was the first instance of all 50 overs in an ODI innings being bowled by spinners amongst full-member nations. There have been previous incidents involving the Associate countries but never in a game involving the bigger teams.
The spin overload ploy worked to a large extent as West Indies had Bangladesh on the mat till 46 overs but Rishad Hossain once again produced a fiery cameo, a blistering 14-ball 39 that could be game-defining in the context of the game. The hosts plundered 50 off the last four overs to get to 213 after being in danger of finishing under 200 at one point.
Ironically, the part-time spin of Athanaze was the toughest for Bangladesh as the off-spinner only conceded 14 off his ten overs, while also picking up two wickets. Motie picked three but went for 65 as the left-arm spinner bore the brunt of Rishad's assault at the death. Hossain (2-41) was the other impactful spinner for the tourists.
