22 firecracker injuries reported in Mohali, godown gutted in Dera Bassi
As many as 22 firecracker-related injuries were reported at the Phase-6 Civil Hospital on the night of Diwali. In total, 19 incidents of minor injuries, including, hand, shoulders and legs, were reported while three persons arrived at the hospital with eye injuries.
“Doctors gave medication to the injured and kept them under observation. They were later sent home,” a doctor on night duty said.
Meanwhile, the police launched an investigation after a car was gutted in Phase 7. Fire officials said no major incident was reported in the city, adding, “There were sporadic incidents which were handled at the spot only.”
Besides, as many as six fire incidents from different sites were reported in Dera Bassi on the night of Diwali. A furniture godown in Trivedi Camp near Dera Bassi was gutted in the biggest fire, with goods worth lakhs being lost.
DD Furniture gowdown caught fire after a stray fire from paddy straw on the backside of the godown spread around 4.15pm, sources said. Since old furniture and unfinished products were stòred in the godwon, the blaze intensified.
Fire tenders from Dera Bassi reached the spot and doused the fire but most of the goods were gutted. Owner Dimple Narula said the business suffered major losses.
A closed industtial unit near Golden Palm society also caught fire but was doused well in time. Two cars were gutted near Gulmohar City society on Haibatpur road in Dera Bassi. Another car was gutted in Sarsini
due to unknown reasons. Minor fire incidents were reported on the backside of Dera Bassi bus stand and Dhanoni village as well.
