109 burn cases reported at Rohtak-PGIMS on Diwali

Pt BD Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) witnessed a sharp surge in emergency cases on Diwali night, as expected.

Dr Kundan Mittal, Medical Superintendent of the PGIMS, said a total of 404 patients arrived at the Dhanwantari Apex Trauma Centre during the night, of whom 74 were admitted for further treatment.

“Among the most serious cases were 109 burn injuries, including 47 children and 62 adults. Four patients with severe burns were admitted, and one of them remains in a critical condition,” said Dr Mittal.

Dr Rajesh Rohilla, Nodal Officer of the Trauma Centre, stated that 50 cases of physical altercations were reported on Diwali night—a significant rise compared to the usual eight to 10 such cases on a regular day. Additionally, eight to 10 road accident victims were also brought in for emergency care.

In anticipation of the increased patient load during the festive period, the PGIMS authorities had ramped up staffing and emergency preparedness at the Trauma Centre. Extra doctors, nurses, and support staff were deployed to manage the influx of cases efficiently.
