Pakistan’s Khawaja Asif issues warning to Afghanistan: ‘One mistake and ceasefire with Islamabad…’

Tensions are currently high between Pakistan and Afghanistan. A recent conflict erupted between the two countries, with both countries attacking each other. A ceasefire was subsequently declared. Now, amid this ceasefire, Pakistan’s Defense Minister has issued a warning to Afghanistan. He stated that the ceasefire is contingent on Kabul gaining control over the TTP.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif said in a recent statement that the ceasefire agreement with Afghanistan is based on conditions. He clarified that this agreement depends on whether the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban government) can control the opposition groups attacking Pakistan – including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

How long will the ceasefire continue?

Asif also stated that no specific timeframe has been set for the ceasefire, stating that it will remain in place as long as the agreement is not violated.

“It was stated very clearly that there would be no infiltration and no facilities would be provided to the TTP on their soil. We reiterated this repeatedly,” he said.

What did Afghanistan say about TTP?

Meanwhile, Suhail Shaheen, the Taliban government’s acting ambassador to Qatar, stated that the Taliban government has no connection to the activities of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan. Shaheen added, “We do not allow anyone to misuse Afghan soil to attack Pakistan. We have stated our commitment on this issue—we do not accept or support any group.”

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General’s spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, as well as the foreign ministries of Britain and Egypt, welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Kabul and Islamabad. They stressed the importance of maintaining this agreement and resolving disputes through diplomatic dialogue.

Stephane Dujarric said, regarding Afghanistan and Pakistan, we hope that the ceasefire will hold and all outstanding issues will be resolved through diplomatic means. After eight days of fighting between Afghanistan and Pakistan, an immediate ceasefire agreement was signed in Doha, brokered by Qatar and Turkey. Pakistan has continued to target Afghanistan over the TTP. Pakistan claims Afghanistan harbors terrorism, while Afghanistan denies this.
