Chhath Puja 2025: Banks will remain closed for 2 days on…, check holiday dates and list of states over here

Banks in Bihar, Jharkhand, and parts of Uttar Pradesh will remain closed for up to two consecutive days during the Chhath Puja celebrations ahead. The festival, considered as one of the most important occasions in these regions. It will be observed on October 27 and 28 which are Kharna and Usha Arghya.

Chhath Puja is dedicated to the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya has cultural and spiritual importance in Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. 

Chhath Puja 2025: Bihar, Jharkhand Bank Holidays

According to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) regional holiday schedule, the duration of the bank holidays may differ from state to state. It depends on local customs and notifications issued by the respective regional offices. 

In Jharkhand banks will remain shut on Monday, October 27, for Chhath Puja and again on Tuesday, October 28. In Bihar, both days have been declared bank holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

Chhath Puja 2025: Uttar Pradesh Bank Holiday

In Uttar Pradesh, bank operations will also be suspended in districts where Chhath Puja is celebrated. They are mainly eastern parts of the state like Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Ballia. However, customers also needs to verify the exact dates of closure through their respective bank branches or local notifications, as the list may vary between districts.

Transactions like cheque clearance, cash withdrawals, or branch visits should be completed ahead of the holiday period to avoid inconvenience. Digital banking platforms, ATMs, and online payment services will continue to function normally during this time.
