Bhanjanagar administration ready to face any emergency situation arising out of Cyclone Montha

The Bhanjanagar administration in Ganjam is not leaving any stone unturned to ensure full preparedness to tackle any emergency situation arising out of the current weather conditions, indicating towards formation of cyclone Montha.

The Odisha government has already cancelled leave of employees, and several district administrations have been directed to remain alert to respond swiftly to any emergency.

Rescue teams are prepared with boats and ropes to reach stranded residents in case of emergency. Stretchers have been arranged for potential casualties. The Odisha Fire Services Department personnel are ready with cutters to clear fallen trees, and generators have been positioned to provide electricity in case of power outages. Emergency lighting systems are also in place to support night-time operations.

Officials have visited shelter houses to check readiness and ensure they are stocked with essential supplies. Surveillance of local black markets is underway to prevent price gouging of emergency goods.

Two specialised teams have been formed to conduct rescue and relief operations if needed. Authorities continue to advise residents in flood- or cyclone-prone areas to remain indoors, stay updated through official channels, and follow evacuation orders if issued.

One of the fire department personnel said, “We have handled such situations before, and our team is experienced. We are fully prepared with all necessary precautions. Every fire department is on high alert, with the Bhanjanagar unit especially vigilant. Schools in flood-prone areas are ready to serve as shelters. We are committed to ensuring the safe rescue of all residents during a cyclone emergency.”

Another personnel said, “We are fully mobilised for the people of Bhanjanagar. All necessary equipment is ready. For waterlogging and flood-like situations, we have high-pressure pumps to remove water. Cutters are also available to clear trees that may block roads during the cyclone.”
