Amit Shah flags off India Maritime Week 2025; knowledge report to follow soon

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday inaugurated the fourth edition of the India Maritime Week 2025 (IMW 2025) at the Bombay (NESCO) Exhibition Centre in Mumbai's Goregaon.
India's flagship maritime event—organised by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways in partnership with the Indian Ports Association—will conclude on October 31.
"This is India's maritime moment, when the gateway of India contemplates before transforming into the gateway of the world," Shah said in his keynote speech.
"Over the last decade, our maritime summits have proven that the far-ranging structural reforms we have brought to the maritime economy have solidified India's position as a superpower in the industry," he added.
Emphasising the government’s Maritime Vision 2030, he announced that India was developing new mega and deep-draft ports to increase port handling capacity to 10,000 million metric tonnes.
Shah also touched on India's strategic location at the centre of global trade corridors, declaring that the upcoming Vadhvan Port would rank amongst the top ten ports in the world in the future.
His inaugural address followed speeches by Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Shantanu Thakur, the Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, as well as Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, Goa CM Pramod Sawant, and Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojna, Shah also inaugurated state-of-the-art Deep-Sea Fishing Vessels—which cost Rs 1.2 crore each—at Mumbai's Mazagaon Dock.
Renowned leaders, policymakers, and maritime experts from India and abroad will take part over the next five days, under the theme 'Uniting Oceans, One Maritime Vision'. Over 100 countries, 500 exhibitors, and 1,00,000 delegates are expected at the IMW 2025, making it one of the world’s largest maritime gatherings.
The onus is on showcasing India's vision for sustainable maritime growth, trade expansion, and blue economy development.
