India Maritime Week 2025 enters critical day 3: Here are the details
MoPSW Sarbananda Sonowal addresses a session on Day 2 of the India Maritime Week 2025
Mumbai awakened today to the third and potentially most momentous day of India Maritime Week 2025, the country’s ambitious attempt to bring policymakers, industry titans, and maritime professionals under a single roof.
Later in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address the Global Maritime Leaders Conclave. Major announcements on green growth, innovation, and international partnerships are expected.
Day 3’s agenda is full of high-profile events: the Leaders Conclave led by the Prime Minister, global CEO roundtables, and thematic forums focused on shipbuilding and the blue economy—all backdropped by ongoing bilateral meetings and MoU signing ceremonies with some of the world’s largest port authorities and logistics players.
The event will also see exclusive sessions featuring delegates from Europe and the rest of Asia, including partnership initiatives under the QUAD framework and Indo-Dutch collaborations for a sustainable maritime world.
“With our unique geography along key global trade routes, India is poised to become a hub for green shipping corridors, connecting domestic and international markets through clean energy trade,” said Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
India Maritime Week 2025, so far, has been a showcase for the government’s ambitious climate commitments: under its Net Zero by 2070 roadmap, India aims to slash carbon emissions per ton of cargo by 30 per cent before 2030 and 70 per cent by 2047.
New deals and announcements
Landmark announcements include the designation of VOC, Paradip, and Deendayal Ports as green hydrogen hubs, and over 12 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen-based e-fuel capacity slated for production, bunkering, and exports.
Session themes range from “Ports as Engines of Transformation”, where India's smart ports, such as JNPA, lead in battery-powered trucking and electric logistics systems, to “Guardians of the Sea” about maritime safety, cyber risks, and autonomous vessel regulation.
Cordelia Cruises is prepared to announce fleet expansion and bring new home ports to Cochin and Visakhapatnam, hinting at a future for coastal and river tourism. THE WEEK covered the latest in cruise tourism this last month.
MoU signings throughout the day are set to feature Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Chennai, and V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authorities, who are expected to formalise partnerships alongside DP World and others.
In light of PM Modi’s visit, security restrictions are already in place. No new passes (e-badges) will be printed further for the day, and there is a bar on cameras and videos during the session by the Prime Minister, the organisers said.
