The Postal Department recently issued an order stating that the Aadhaar number can be used to prove the identity of the Aadhaar holder, but it is not a definitive proof of citizenship, residence, or date of birth.
Therefore, do not use it as a final basis to prove the date of birth. The government has also ordered all post offices to disseminate this information to all concerned and to display it on notice boards in public areas.

Aadhaar enrollment and updates will remain free for newborns. Biometric updates for children are mandatory at age 5, between 5-7 years, and between 15-17 years. This clarification from UIDAI is necessary to prevent misuse of Aadhaar.
