Real Madrid eye Harry Kane not as Vinicius Jr’s backup, but his replacement?

If the contract extension talks with Vinicius Jr fail to materialise, Real Madrid may pull another Joselu-like purchase of a striker, Spanish media reports said. However, the player being discussed this time around is no mid-ranger who will have to wait for occasional starts but a high-profile, proven goal-scoring machine—England captain Harry Kane.

 

Real Madrid are reportedly willing to shell out 65 million euros to get Harry Kane if Vinicius decides against signing a new deal, the reports said. The idea will be to let Kylian Mbappe dictate terms on the left flank with Kane becoming a classic number 9. At 32, Kane in no way fits in the age bracket that Real Madrid are focusing on as part of building a 'Galacticos' squad. However, the former Spurs forward is a superstar beyond doubt who could further increase Real's brand value.

Earlier in September, reports had stated that Madrid was considering getting Kane although the striker being Vinicius's replacement was not mentioned. Spanish outlets had claimed that Kane was to be the proven goalscorer that the Los Blancos can turn to when the schedule becomes packed so that Mbappé and Vinicius Jr are not fatigued.

 

Harry Kane joined Bayern Munich in 2023 after Robert Lewandowski decided to leave for Barcelona. His deal with the Bundesliga champions is valid until 2027. As per reports, there is a clause in his contract that, if activated, will open doors for an exit in the winter of 2026 for a sum no less than €65 million. Despite being in incredible form, the Bavarians may agree to his departure considering his age, reports said.

25-year-old Brazilian had significantly lowered his initial financial demands to agree to a renewal with Real, buyt the talks remain stalled. Vini was unwilling to agree on a bank-shattering move to Saudi Arabia due to the fear of his  Ballon d'Or dreams diminishing. But latest reports are not in favour of him remaining with the La Liga giants. Earlier, it was reported that the world could witness Mbappe and Erling Haaland playing together as Real would tru to get the Norwegian from Manchester City spending the sum they generate by selling Vinicius.
