Yash Raj Films pushes 'Alpha' release date: Here's why the Alia Bhatt movie will take more time to reach theatres

The next entry in Yash Raj Films' Spy Universe will take a bit longer to reach screens. The production house announced that Alia Bhatt-starrer Alpha will hit theatres on April 17, 2026.
The reason cited is VFX work, which requires fine-tuning, according to an official statement issued by the team.
"Alpha is an extremely special film for us, and we want to present the film in its most cinematic self. We have realised that the VFX will take a little longer than we had initially assumed. We want to leave no stone unturned to make Alpha into a theatrical experience for everyone to cherish. Thus, we will now release the film on April 17, 2026," a YRF spokesperson said in a statement.
A teaser was attached to the end credits of Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr's War 2. It revealed that Bobby Deol has been cast in a pivotal part alongside the second lead, Sharvari, and Anil Kapoor. Deol is reportedly playing the antagonist.
The YRF Spy Universe comprises the two War movies, alongside Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan and Salman Khan's Tiger movie series. It’s not yet clear if a crossover with Alpha will happen at some point.
Last seen in Vasan Bala's Jigra, Alia is also in the midst of filming Sanjay Leela Bhansali's epic Love & War, in which she shares the screen with Ranbir Kapoor and Raazi co-star Vicky Kaushal. Other reported cast members include Shefali Shah, Ali Fazal, Supriya Pathak, Boman Irani, Tusshar Kapoor, and Jaaved Jaferi, among others.
