Sayantani Ghosh shuts down pregnancy rumours amid her TV comeback: ‘So sad and…’

In the glitzy world of entertainment, superficial looks are sometimes given way more importance than the personality and talent of an individual. In the world that runs on sensationalising things, a slight weight gain, a loose outfit, or even natural ageing soon takes over the headline and becomes the talk of the town. But sometimes these things cross the boundary and become insensitive. One such similar case happened recently when television actress Sayantani Ghosh found herself at the centre of unnecessary speculation when people assumed she was pregnant just because she wore loose-fitted clothes. What followed was her powerful, unapologetic response that called out society’s hypocrisy and insensitivity.

Sayantani Ghosh Slams Pregnancy Rumours

Television actor Sayantani Ghosh, known for Ghar Ek Sapnaa, Naaginn—Waadon Ki Agniparikshaa, and other popular shows, recently opened up about the insensitive assumptions surrounding her personal life. She shared that during a recent interview, she was directly asked if she was expecting. Sayantani, who was shocked by this, clarified, “I am not pregnant!”

Sayantani also disclosed the bizarre reason behind the rumours. Sharing her frustration, she wrote, “Like really, WHAT THE HELL? Sadly, this is what we call a modern and forward-thinking society. Still so typical in our thought process! So much noise around women’s empowerment, yet we hardly bat an eyelid before judging and arriving at conclusions about women! WHAT AN IRONY.”

Sayantani Ghosh on Judgement

Calling out years of unnecessary judgments, Sayantani shared how such rumours have affected her mental health and caused self-doubt. She said, “So here’s the truth—I am a 41-year-old married, non-pregnant woman. I wear comfortable clothing because I prefer it that way.”

Speaking about the natural change in her body with age, she said, “With age, my body has changed; it is a certain type now, and there is no shame about it. I looked a particular way in my 20s and 30s, and now I am what I am. I owned it then; I own it now! I was confident then, I am confident now! As they say, change is the biggest constant in life.”

Calling Out Societal Pressure on Women

Sayantani urged people to stop making assumptions about women’s lives and respect personal boundaries. She also spoke about how women are constantly age-shamed and body-shamed. She also exposed the hypocrisy of asking women to “age gracefully” while judging them at every step.

Finally, she concluded her post, saying: “Let us not pull each other down with ridiculous judgements but truly empower each other… And let’s not forget—IT’S MY BODY, MY LIFE, MY CHOICE.”
