In 2 years, Kharar civic body saw eight executive officers
It is not difficult to understand why Kharar city is down in dumps. The Municipal Council has seen eight executive officers (EOs), the incharge of the civic body, under the AAP government since February 27, 2023.
In the latest development, incumbent EO Ravi Jindal has been transferred. Gurbakshish Singh took the charge of the office today.
Posted in the Kharar civic body on December 3 last year, Jindal did not even complete five months on the post.
Kharar MLA Anmol Gagan Mann’s frosty relations have always remained the talk of the town ever since Jindal was transferred from Nayagaon to Kharar. Residents are raising questions over the functioning of Local Government officials with respect to frequent change in officials, corruption allegations and slow pace of developmental projects in the area.
Prior to Jindal, Ravneet Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Ashok Patharia, Bhupinder Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Manvir Singh Gill and Ravneet Singh have held the position under the AAP government. Gurdeep Singh held the post twice — for three months and one month — in 2023. Patharia remained on the post for just four days in May 2023. His successor Bhupinder Singh spent a little more than a month before being replaced by Sukhdev Singh in August 2023.
The development comes at a time when 18 councillors have submitted a no confidence motion against Kharar Municipal Council president Jaspreet Kaur of Longia to the Executive Officer, calling for a meeting to elect the new president.
The Zirakpur Executive Officer, Ashok Patharia, was also transferred, with Jagjeet Singh Judge taking the charge recently.
