Punjab Dy Speaker reviews procurement process in mandis at Garhshankar

Deputy Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Jai Krishan Singh Rouri, visited the grain market of Garhshankar and took stock of the wheat procurement process. He interacted with farmers, commission agents and Mandi officials and assessed the status of the procurement process.

The Deputy Speaker said that the Punjab government was committed to protecting the interests of farmers. He assured that the government was ensuring that the farmers get the right price for their crops on time and there was no hindrance in the procurement process.

Rouri inspected the facilities available in the Mandis and directed the officials to ensure that the farmers do not face any kind of inconvenience. He said that basic facilities like cleanliness, drinking water and shade should be taken care of in the Mandis so that the farmers are comfortable.

The Deputy Speaker informed that so far, 2,34,183 metric tonnes (MT) of wheat had arrived in the district, out of which 2,33,287 metric tonnes had been purchased by various government agencies. He informed that the process of payment to the farmers was going on smoothly and Rs 513.55 crore had been transferred directly to the accounts of farmers so far.
