Pak national says cast vote in Baramulla, authorities orders FIR
A Pakistan national, who was brought to the Attari-Wagah border for deportation on Wednesday, claimed that he cast his vote in the elections in Jammu and Kashmir. On his disclosure, the authorities have ordered registration of an FIR.
As per sources, the District Election Officer, Baramulla, has taken cognizance of a video circulating on social media in which an individual allegedly claimed to have enrolled himself in the Electoral Roll of the 09-Uri Assembly constituency without being an Indian citizen.
“In response, the DEO has directed the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of 09-Uri to take appropriate action in accordance with the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1950,” officials said in a statement on Wednesday.
It said a detailed enquiry has been ordered, and instructions have been issued for the registration of an FIR in the matter.
Earlier today, a man, identified as Osama, who was living in north Kashmir’s Uri, said he was staying in India for the past 17 years and had also cast his vote.
A video of his interaction with the media at the Attari border went viral on the social media platforms.
