Thar driver drags biker to death in Ludhiana

A chaotic scene unfolded near Aarti Chowk on Wednesday when a speeding Thar car hit a bike rider and dragged him for a considerable distance before crashing into a closed shop. The car, driven by a woman, damaged the shutter and broke the shop’s staircase on impact.

The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot. The severely injured rider was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) by onlookers, where doctors declared him brought dead. Police have taken the Thar into custody and initiated an investigation.

The deceased was identified as 35-year-old Sukhwinder Singh, son of Akali leader Balbir Singh and a resident of Rishi Nagar’s Z Block. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

The Thar driver was identified as Rajwinder Kaur Sandhu, a resident of Shimla.

Eyewitnesses said she lost control while attempting a U-turn after buying fruits, hitting and dragging the biker before ramming into the shutter. A large crowd gathered at the site, and with great effort, managed to pull the victim out from under the vehicle.

CCTV footage captured the accident, clearly showing the Thar speeding up during the turn. Assitant Commissioner of Police Guriqbal Singh confirmed that a case has been registered and efforts are on to nab the absconding driver.
