Trent Boult unfazed by rising star Vaibhav Suryavashi before clash against RR, says ‘I’ve bowled to Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers’
New Delhi: Experienced New Zealand bowler Trent Boult will face an unusual challenge in the upcoming IPL match against Rajasthan Royals. Boult commented on Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a teenage player who recently scored a record-breaking century, ahead of the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals game at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
The experienced left-arm fast bowler expressed calm despite the considerable enthusiasm generated by the young player’s impressive debut.
“(I have) bowled to some brilliant batsmen around the world, the Chris Gayles, the AB de Villiers, all the quality that come in these tournaments. I think I’ll be careful not to say I’m worried about a 14-year-old,” Boult said.
“But it’s going to be an exciting challenge to come up against a guy who’s obviously fearless and running in hot form at the moment, so that’s what it’s about.”
Suryavanshi, at a remarkably young age, achieved a T20 century off just 38 balls, setting a new record for youngest ever to accomplish this feat in men’s cricket. His innings, also the second fastest T20 century in IPL history (35 balls), was lauded by Boult as a highlight of the season.
“The whole world saw that performance the other night. (It was a) quality (knock) from such a young kid. It’s the beauty of this tournament, of all the players coming out and taking any opportunity with both hands and I thought he did that very nicely,” said the Kiwi quick.
Boult expressed confidence in his ability to perform well on what he anticipates will be a high-scoring pitch, citing his experience.
“No, I don’t as a bowler,” he replied when asked if he expected another run-fest. “It’s a high-scoring ground; history says that. It’s a solid wicket matched by a very, very quick outfield. I’ve been lucky enough to experience the ground over the last three seasons so hopefully I can put that experience into good stead over the next game.”
Mumbai Indians’ recent success, including a five-game winning streak, is attributed by Trent Boult to teamwork and Jasprit Bumrah’s return. However, current attention focuses on young Suryakumar Yadav, whose aggressive batting style has created a highly anticipated clash against Boult and Bumrah, one of the top fast bowlers currently playing.
