Israel's Worst Wildfires In Decades Rage Outside Jerusalem, 'National Emergency' Declared; Dramatic Visuals Surface

Tel Aviv: Massive wildfires have been spreading rapidly near Jerusalem. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a warning that these wildfires could reach the city. He also declared it a "national emergency”.

Several videos of massive wildfires also surfaced online. In these videos, smoke could be seen billowing above highways near Jerusalem on Wednesday. Firefighters have rushed to control the blaze. Several people were reportedly injured in the wildfires.

Hundreds of civilians are at risk due to these wildfires, said Israel's Magen David Adom (MDA) rescue agency as reported by The Guardian. These are considered the worst wildfires in years in Israel.

Police personnel have repeatedly been deployed around the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway and the Jerusalem Hills. People have been asked to avoid taking the route and have also been banned from visiting national parks where the fires are blazing.

As per the report by The Guardian, communities located about 30km west of Jerusalem were evacuated. Meanwhile, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir pointed out that arson could be the reason behind these wildfires. Ben Gvir also visited the affected areas.
