PM Modi Kerala Visit: Thiruvananthapuram Airport Issues Travel Advisory; Check Traffic Restrictions
With Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to visit Kerala for the commissioning ceremony of the Vizhinjam International Seaport on May 2, the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport has advised travellers to start early to avoid delays. Several traffic diversions, parking restrictions and heightened security measures have been put in place in the district.
The Prime Minister is expected to arrive in the state capital on Thursday evening. His visit will culminate in the official inauguration of the much-awaited Vizhinjam deep-water port, developed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), under a public-private partnership at an estimated cost of Rs 8,867 crore.
In anticipation of disruptions, the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Ltd (TIAL) issued a public advisory through its official channels: "In light of the upcoming VVIP visit in #Thiruvananthapuram, traffic regulations will be in effect on 1 and 2 May 2025. We kindly advise passengers to allow extra travel time when heading to the airport. We appreciate your understanding and support."
Traffic Diversions
The authorities have confirmed that several roads along the Prime Minister’s convoy route will face temporary restrictions. Commuters have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel and follow police instructions during restricted hours.
Among the key areas affected by traffic curbs are Sreekariyam, Anayara Medical College, Thiruvallam Park, Karakulam Temple, Flory Junction, Alappas Junction, and Killipalam, as per a report on Manorama. Vehicle movement on these and connecting roads will be regulated on both May 1 and 2.
Police have warned that vehicles found parked in prohibited zones will be towed, and violators may face legal action. Additional personnel will be deployed to manage the crowd and ensure smooth passage of the VVIP convoy.
