Four killed in Ajmer hotel fire; woman throws child from window to save him

A major fire broke out at a hotel in Rajasthan’s Ajmer on Thursday morning leaving four people dead and several others injured.

The fire at Hotel Naaz started at 8 am reportedly due to a short circuit.

"Fire incident occurred at a hotel in Diggi Bazaar area today morning. Police team is on the spot. Four people, including two men, a woman and a child, have died due to suffocation and burn injuries," JLN Medical College Principal Dr Anil Samaria told PTI.

Eyewitnesses claimed to have heard the sound of a blast before the fire. Videos shared on social media shows thick smoke billowing out of the five-storey building.

According to reports, 18 guests were staying at the hotel at the time of the fire incident and some of them jumped from the windows to save their lives.

"A woman threw her child in my lap from a window. She also tried to jump off the building but we stopped her," Mangila Kalosia, who was staying at the hotel, told PTI.

Additional SP Himanshu Jangid said the narrow approach road to the hotel was hampering the rescue work. Some reports claimed that many police officials and firefighters fainted while trying to save the people trapped in the hotel.

ADM City Gajendra Singh Rathore later said the rescue operation was over and the fire had been completely extinguished.

"The search operation is complete, there is no one else inside. The hotel manager said that the fire started from the electric panel, which grew bigger in no time," Rathore was quoted as saying by NDTV.
