VIDEO: Massive Traffic Jam On Pune-Mumbai Expressway — Vehicles Stranded For Hours, Commuters Fume!

Due to the Maharashtra Day holiday, there was heavy traffic on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway on Thursday, causing a major traffic jam that left thousands of vehicles stuck.

A traffic backup stretched for around five kilometers in the Bhor Ghat area on the Pune-bound side. Meanwhile, traffic on the Mumbai-bound side was flowing normally, although there were more cars than usual, according to the Expressway control room.

Officials said that traffic personnel were able to ease the congestion on the Pune-bound side before the afternoon.

One passenger traveling to Pune for a wedding, told PTI that their bus took over an hour just to pass the Amrutanjan Bridge in the ghat section.

Traffic jams often happen near the bridge because large trucks slow down while climbing the steep slope. To solve this issue, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation is building a "missing link" road that will connect the Ghat section to the Singhgad Institute, east of Lonavala.

Few commuters took to social media to raise the issues.

Same situation in every holiday season

Meanwhile, the authorities are urging drivers to exercise patience, but the ongoing traffic snarls are causing major inconvenience for travelers heading towards Pune.

During every holiday season, the expressway gets jammed towards Pune as it serves as one of the only roads leading to Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and several other tourist destinations like Lonavala and Mahabaleshwar.
