'Fill The Compost Pit' Campaign Launched In Palghar To Boost Rural Sanitation And Organic Waste Management
In a significant step towards organic sanitation and waste management in rural Maharashtra, the campaign "Fill the Compost Pit, Keep Our Village Clean" was launched today at the Kolgaon Gram Panchayat office in Palghar district. This initiative will be implemented across villages in multiple districts of the state.
The campaign falls under the broader framework of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Gramin), which aims to ensure effective management of wastewater and solid waste in rural areas. Several villages have already completed key infrastructure for waste processing, including the construction of NADEP compost pits to handle wet waste.
"The primary goal of the campaign is to encourage the collection and proper segregation of wet waste and its conversion into organic compost. This compost will be used for local tree plantation drives and will also be distributed to farmers in the future to support sustainable agricultural practices," informed an official.
Officials highlighted that this initiative not only addresses sanitation but also promotes environmental sustainability and rural development through the use of organic fertilizers.
