Traffic police issues advisory for walk for drug-free city

The UT Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory in view of the “Walk for Drug-Free Chandigarh” on May 2 and 3.

The traffic police announced restrictions on several major roads in the city from 5:30 am to 9:30 pm on both days. Commuters travelling during these hours have been advised to plan their routes accordingly.

Mayor reviews arrangements

Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla held a meeting to review the arrangements for ‘Walk for Drug-Free Chandigarh’ to be held on May 3.

MC Commissioner Amit Kumar, Joint Commissioners, Chief Engineer and other senior officials attended the meeting. Office-bearers of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, resident welfare associations, market welfare associations, FOSWAC, CRAWFED, car dealers association and other organisations were also present.

The Mayor urged all stakeholders to collaborate and mobilise maximum support to the campaign.

According to the advisory, traffic will be restricted from the parking area behind the UT Secretariat in Sector 9 towards Matka Chowk, including the Sector 16/17 light point, Lyons light point, and MC small chowk, extending up to the T-point near Hotel Shivalikview, and Tiranga Park. Similarly, roads leading from the GMSSS, Sector 16, towards the Sector 16/17 light point, through Lyons light point and MC small chowk to Tiranga Park, will also be closed during the advisory hours.

In addition, commuters from the GMSSS, Sector 22, heading towards Gurdial Singh Petrol Pump, Cricket Stadium chowk and beyond to Hotel Shivalikview, MC small chowk and Tiranga Park will face diversions. A similar restriction will apply to the route from the GMSSS, Sector 23, to the Sector 16/23 small rotary, passing through the cricket stadium chowk and onwards.

Other roads on which access will be restricted include the stretch from Government Home Science College, Sector 10, to Matka Chowk, Taj light point, Lyons light point and further to MC small chowk leading to Tiranga Park. Likewise, the route from Cricket Stadium chowk to Hotel Shivalikview and from MC office in Sector 17 to Tiranga Park will remain closed during the specified hours.

The route from the GGMSSS, Sector 18 to the Sector 17/18 light point, Sahab Singh light point, and the rear of the ISBT-17 towards Tiranga Park will also be inaccessible during the period.

Chandigarh
