Mohali gets upgraded de-addiction centre

The Punjab Government today launched an upgraded “Nasha Mukti Kendra” at Sector 66, Mohali, by enhancing its bed capacity to 100, besides adding skill training courses with the help of Sun Foundation.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh said the bed capacity of the kendra would be further increased to 200.

He inaugurated the upgraded kendra in the presence of Rajya Sabha MP and patron of Sun Foundation, Vikramjit Singh Sahney, and Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh.

Dr Balbir said the state government had increased the number of beds from 1,500 to 5,000 at de-addiction centres with addition of skill courses at rehabilitation centres.

MP Sahney has given consent to set up skill training centres at 19 de-addiction and rehabilitation centres, starting from Amritsar, Jalandhar and Mohali.

The MP said several courses had been started at Mohali-based Nasha Mukti Kendra, including computer, mobile repair, cooking, electrician, organic vegetable & fruit gardening. He the kendra also had a recreation room, gym and sports area.

The Health Minister said the number of Out-Patient Opioid Assisted Treatment centres (OOAT) had been increased to 565 and disbursement of medicines had been digitised. All private medical and nursing colleges have been asked to be part of the “Yudh Nasheya Virudh” campaign to make Punjab free of drugs.

He said private medical colleges had responded positively by offering 1,200 seats to government for treatment of drug addicts.

He said there were 2,500 patients at de-addiction centres against the total number of 5,000 beds.
