Negi reaffirms commitment to labour welfare at Kinnaur
Revenue, Horticulture, Tribal Development and Redressal of Public Grievances Minister Jagat Singh Negi on Wednesday attended the district-level International Labour Day celebration at Ramleela Ground in Reckong Peo, Kinnaur, as the chief guest. He emphasised the state government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and upliftment of labourers, particularly in tribal areas like Kinnaur.
Negi lauded the crucial role of workers in nation-building and paid tribute to their invaluable contributions. “Labour Day, observed globally on May 1, is a day to honour workers’ achievements and promote unity, awareness, and solidarity among the working class,” he said.
The minister highlighted the government’s initiatives for the welfare of labourers, including the protection of their rights and provision of essential services. He informed that regular free health camps and awareness drives are organised in the district to ensure the well-being of workers.
Special appreciation was extended to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) workers for their dedicated service in harsh conditions. Negi assured that the state government is determined to safeguard labourers’ constitutional rights. He also criticised the labour reforms introduced by the Central Government, stating that they favor capitalists over workers. He asserted that the Congress party would strongly oppose these “anti-worker” laws through legal means.
A two-minute silence was observed to pay tribute to the tourists who lost their lives in the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The event concluded with colourful cultural performances by artists from the Mahadev Sports and Cultural Club, Powari, celebrating the spirit and contributions of workers.
