Two Chandigarh trekkers rescued from Churdhar

Two trekkers from Chandigarh, who had gone missing while trekking in the Churdhar valley of Sirmaur district on their way to Chureshwar Maharaj temples, were rescued on Wednesday, the police said.

“After an intense search of over 30 hours, the missing trekkers were rescued from the Churdhar valley by the teams of Nohradhar and Chaupal police stations with the help of local residents,” DSP (Headquarters) Ramakant Thakur, who is also holding the charge of Sangrah, said on Wednesday.

According to the police, late Monday night, Dheeraj from Chandigarh reported on emergency helpline 112 that two of his companions, Shubham and Prabhjot, had gone missing while trekking in the Churdhar valley.

He had reported that he along with five other persons were trekking to the Churdhar Peak from the Nohradhar side on Monday but their two companions, Shubham and Prabhjot, got separated from the group. The family members of Shubham and Prabhjot were informed. The rescued trekkers told the police that they lost their way due to heavy fog and bad weather.

Meanwhile, the police appealed to tourists and pilgrims to travel to Churdhar in groups, with prior information about the weather. — PTI
