BJP leader and Olympian Yogeshwar Dutt’s wife, Sheetal Sharma, and their seven-year-old son had a miraculous escape after their vehicle rammed into a tree near Shahpur village in Israna area of Panipat district on Thursday.
The accident occurred on the Panipat-Rohtak National Highway when Sheetal was driving their Fortuner SUV from Gohana to Panipat. As she reached Shahpur village, where road construction was underway and traffic was being diverted one-way, the vehicle went off road while overtaking a truck and crashed into a roadside tree.
“The collision was so strong that all airbags deployed, which saved both my wife and son,” said Yogeshwar Dutt. The vehicle, however, suffered extensive damage.
Local residents rushed to the spot immediately after the accident. They helped Sheetal and her son out of the vehicle and took them to a private hospital in Panipat. Fortunately, both were unharmed and were discharged.
Expressing relief and gratitude, Yogeshwar Dutt said, “Both are safe and did not suffer any injury. They are now home. My wife and son got a miracle escape only with the blessings of all people and God.”
He also took to Facebook to share the news with his followers, writing: “With the blessings of all of you and God, my wife and son are absolutely fine.”
Inspector Mahipal, SHO of Israna Police Station, confirmed the incident. “The accident occurred near Shahpur village. Both individuals are safe, and no complaint has been filed,” he said.
Yogeshwar Dutt, a Padma Shri and Olympic medallist, has contested the Baroda Assembly seat twice on a BJP ticket but was unsuccessful on both occasions.
