Punjab begins all-party meet over BBMB water row, refuses to release 8,500 cusecs to Haryana

The all-party meeting convened by the Punjab government to discuss the issue of Punjab being “forced" by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) to release 8,500 cusecs of water to Haryana, has begun.

The meeting is being chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who has reached Punjab Bhawan, the venue for the meeting.

From the Akali Dal, Balwinder Singh Bhunder and Dr Daljit Singh Cheema have arrived for the meeting, while the Congress has deputed Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Rana KP.

BJP president Sunil Jakhar and senior party leader Manoranjan Kalia, and AAP President Aman Arora have also reached to discuss the issue, which has widespread ramifications.

The BSP is represented by Avtar Singh Karunpuri and party MLA Nacchattar Pal.

It may be mentioned that last night, the Punjab government sent out invites to Avtar Singh Karimpuri, president of Punjab BSP, Sunil Jakhar, president of Punjab BJP, Aman Arora, president of AAP Punjab, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, president of Punjab Congress, Sukhbir Singh Badal, president of SAD, and Sukhwinder Singh Sekhon, Secretary of Punjab State Committee of CPI Marxist, for the All-Party Meeting to discuss the issue.

Sekhon has also arrived for the meeting.

The government has also called a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Monday.

Meanwhile, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan has called a meeting of Chief Secretaries/officers of partner states of BBMB in Delhi at 11 a.m., after Punjab refused to release 8,500 cusecs of water to Haryana. The BBMB had ordered the water to be released on Wednesday night.
