The deceased has been identified as 39-year-old Suraj Kuzhiyath John, a native of Naduvil in Kannur district, and his 35-year-old wife, Bincy, who hailed from Keezhillam near Perumbavoor in Ernakulam. The couple, married for 11 years, are survived by their two young children, Evelyn and Edwin, who are currently in Kerala.

The incident took place in Abbasiya, a residential area home to many expatriates. According to preliminary reports, the couple returned to Kuwait two days earlier, on April 29, after celebrating Easter with their families in Kerala, as per a report on Manorama. Both were employed in Kuwait’s healthcare sector — Suraj at Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah Health Center under the Ministry of Health, and Bincy with the Ministry of Defense.
Friends of the couple told local media that they had completed night shifts and were home at the time of the incident, reported Siasat. The two were reportedly preparing to migrate to Australia for better career prospects. However, tensions at home may have escalated. Neighbors recounted hearing arguments between the two in the past, suggesting a strained relationship.
Sources close to the investigation revealed that following an alleged altercation, both individuals suffered fatal stab wounds. Suraj is said to have sent alarming messages to friends admitting to killing his wife before taking his own life. He reportedly removed his WhatsApp profile picture and status updates shortly afterward.
With Friday being a public holiday in Kuwait, the post-mortem is expected to be conducted on Saturday. Authorities continue their investigation, and consular officials are in touch with the couple’s families. Suraj’s sister, Sunitha, also a nurse in Kuwait, is reportedly assisting with formalities.
