Pune Traffic: 10 New Double-Decker Flyovers Proposed At Mundhwa, Kalubai Chowk, Dandekar Pul, Wagholi, Warje, Kothrud, Viman Nagar, Wanowrie, Golibar Maidan & Manjari

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has suggested 10 more flyovers in different areas of the city to relieve traffic congestion after the double-decker bridge concept with a metro line on top on Karve Road and Ganeshkhind Road proved successful.

These flyovers will be planned with the agency implementing the metro project, reported Indian Express.

Double-decker flyovers in Pune

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (Maha-Metro) collaborated to build the double-decker bridge that is currently in use at Nal Stop on Karve Road.

In addition to supporting the development of the metro rail route from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar, PMC and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) are working together to create the soon-to-be operational double-decker bridge on Ganeshkhind Road.

Here are the locations where the proposed double-decker bridges will be built:

  • Mundhwa Mahatma Phule Chowk

  • Kalubai Chowk on Solapur Road

  • Dandekar Pul Chowk

  • Wagholi Awhalwadi Chowk

  • Ambedkar Chowk in Warje

  • Kothrud Bus Depot in Bhusari Colony

  • Golibar Maidan Chowk

  • Viman Nagar Chowk

  • Wanowrie Fatimanagar Chowk

  • Ravidarshan in Manjari

At present, social media is abuzz with criticism of PMC's failure to construct double-decker flyover on Sinhagad Road. Considering the upcoming metro construction, PMC was suggested with the idea of double decker flyover, however, the state government proceeded with a single flyover, which was opened on May 1. Several netizens have taken to social media to highlight the flaw in the planning.
