Alok Joshi heads new National Security Advisory Board
Alok Joshi, former R&AW Chief will be new Chairman of the new National Security Advisory Board. He is former 1976 batch IPS officer of Haryana cadre. He will lead the seven-member board comprising retired officers from the armed forces, police service, and foreign service. Former Western Air Commander Air Marshal PM Sinha, former Southern Army Commander Lt Gen AK Singh, and Rear Admiral Monty Khanna all from the military services now part of the board. Two retired IPS officers Rajiv Ranjan Verma and Manmohan Singh - and B Venkatesh Varma, a retired officer from the Indian Foreign Service, are also part of the revamped board.
Anurag Gupta appointed as DGP, Jharkhand
Anurag Gupta has been appointed as Director General of Police (DGP), Head of Police Force in Jharkhand. He is a 1990 batch IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre.
Tenure of Director General of Police, Karnataka extended
The Karnataka Government has extended tenure of Director General and Inspector General of Police (DGP-IGP) Dr. Alok Mohan until May 21. According to service norms, Dr. Alok Mohan was scheduled to retire on April 30. However, citing a Supreme Court directive that mandates a fixed two-year term for the state police chief, the government decided to extend his tenure until May 21.
UPSC Chairperson retired
Preeti Sudan, Chairperson, UPSC has retired on April 29. She was a retired IAS officer.
UPSC is without Head
After the retirement of Preeti Sudan, the UPSC is now a without Head for the last three days.

Deven Bharti appointed as new Mumbai's Police Commissioner.
Senior IPS officer Deven Bharti has been appointed the new commissioner of Mumbai police. Bharti will take charge as the city’s top cop from incumbent Vivek Phansalkar, who is retiring after serving the force for 35 years. Deven Bharti has also headed the Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad. The coveted post of Mumbai police commissioner has traditionally been of the ADGP rank, but it had been upgraded to the DG rank in a few recent postings.

Telangana is waiting for a full-time DGP for long time!
In Telangana, since the present Government assumed the power in December 2023, no full-time DGP has been appointed. All officials serving in the role since then have held in-charge or additional charge positions. The last full-time DGP was M Mahendar Reddy, appointed in 2018 by the previous BRS Government and who served until December 2022. After Reddy’s retirement, officers including Anjani Kumar, Ravi Gupta, and Jitender were posted as DGP (Coordination) with additional charge of DGP (HoPF), but no permanent appointment has been made.

The President of India has approved the appointment of Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai, Judge of the Supreme Court as the Chief Justice of India with effect from May 14, 2025.
