Fourth Bharat Soka Gakkai Sustainability Conclave: From Convenience To Consciousness - Building A Culture Of Sustainability In Bengaluru
Bengaluru: Bharat Soka Gakkai, an organization promoting peace, culture, education and sustainability in India, organized the Fourth BSG Sustainability Conclave on April 30, 2025, against the backdrop of the recent water crisis in this once pristine city.
The conclave, held at the JN Tata Auditorium, IISC, in Bengaluru, brought together people from diverse walks of life including thought leaders and sustainability enthusiasts to explore sustainability solutions for the city.

In his inaugural address, Chairperson of Bharat Soka Gakkai, Vishesh Gupta, said: “When our choices are rooted in community, nature, or shared responsibility, only then, future generations can be secured.”
The conclave featured a live self-reflective audience poll on the question “How sustainable is your lifestyle?”. Through an interesting pattern, the poll brought greater awareness among the audience on the importance of leading sustainable lives.
A panel discussion emphasized on the need to create a thriving culture of sustainability in Bengaluru. Panelists shared examples of their own impactful actions to show how each person can make a difference to the environment through a change in their lifestyle.
Shama Karkal (Chair of the Board of Trustees – Catalyst Foundation | Chair, Steering Committee – Asia Pacific Alliance for Sexual and Reproductive Health) said, "While each SDG is important, they all need to be achieved for an equitable future for people and the planet."
Vipul Arora (Global Head of Sustainability – HCL Tech) appropriately summed it up as follows: “The highest form of Sustainability is to use it as a Consciousness!”
Odette Katrak (Environment & Sustainability Changemaker | Founder – Beautiful Bharat) shared about the choices we can make to live sustainably: “It is my earnest appeal to care more about our planet. It is not difficult, once we put the planet back at the centre of our lives."
BSG also displayed a sustainability exhibition titled ‘Seeds of Hope & Action: Making the SDGs a Reality’, which speaks about the “Power of One” to create a more sustainable world, and about adopting Sustainable Human Behaviour as a way of life.
