People have notes worth Rs 6,266 crore till April 30, 2025
According to the news, RBI said in a statement on May 2 that the total value of Rs 2000 notes in circulation, which was Rs 3.56 lakh crore at the close of business on May 19, 2023, came down to Rs 6,266 crore at the close of business on April 30, 2025. The Reserve Bank said that thus, 98.24 percent of the Rs 2000 notes in circulation have been returned as of May 19, 2023.

If you still have Rs 2000 notes lying with you, it is not that you cannot change it. Yes, for this you will have to go to 19 regional offices of the Reserve Bank of India, because the facility of depositing and/or changing such notes in the branches of banks was only till October 7, 2023.
From October 9, 2023, RBI issue offices or regional offices are accepting Rs 2000 banknotes from individuals and entities for depositing them in their bank accounts. Also, people can send Rs 2000 banknotes through India Post from any post office in the country to any RBI issue office for depositing them in their bank accounts.
