Car-borne youths rob UP native in Dera Bassi

Four unidentified car-borne youths robbed a Uttar Pradesh native Zia-ul-Haq of Rs 20,600 cash, ATM card, mobile phone and important documents at gunpoint near Jawaharpur chowk on the Chandigarh-Ambala National Highway in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The victim had hailed a shared taxi from near the Dera Bassi bus stand for the Ambala railway station at around 5.30 am.

According to the victim, there was a driver and a co-passenger in the car when he boarded it, but two more persons joined them a little ahead. When the car reached Jawaharpur Chowk, the driver took a U-turn and one person pointed a pistol at him, Zia-ul-Haq said. The car-borne youths took out money from his bag, his phone and documents before pushing him out of the car at the Dera Bassi flyover.

The police have recorded the victim’s statement and began investigation.

On April 22, a Bengaluru truck driver, Rehmat, was robbed of three mobile phones and cash near Bakarpur in Dera Bassi on the Chandigarh-Ambala highway.
