PRESPL, APChemi and Intellecap collaborate to develop India’s largest biochar based carbon credit platform — BiocharIND

New Delhi: PRESPL (Punjab Renewable Energy Systems Private Limited) – India’s largest organized player in aggregating, processing and distributing biomass agricultural waste and APChemi Private Limited, – India’s leading pyrolysis technology player have partnered with Intellecap – a leading global player in the field of impact advisory and ecosystem building for sustainable development; to set up Biochar India Private Limited (BiocharIND).
The move is aimed at becoming India’s largest biochar based carbon credit platform which will sequester CO2, increase soil carbon, benefit farmers through increased crop yield, improved soil health and remunerative prospects through biomass utilisation mitigating open field agriculture residues burning.
In India, over 122 million MT crop residues are burnt every year which leads to a huge increase in pollution and soil degradation. BiocharIND will use these crop residues for the production of biochar and play a role in avoiding 183 million tons of CO2 emissions as well as removing 102 million tons of CO2. BiocharIND will build and operate 5 large scale biochar projects, each processing 100TPD of biomass input over the next 5 Years with a total investment outlay of INR 1.5 billion. This will help in sequestering upto 106,000 tons of CO2 annually and benefit millions of smallholder farmers through increased crop yield via biochar based soil enrichment. BiocharIND will also produce upto 80,000 tons/year of wood vinegar, a biochar byproduct, which will be used for production of organic pesticide, organic herbicides and biofertilizers.
The first high technology production facility of BiocharIND will be set up in Punjab-Haryana and will produce 10,000 MT of biochar per annum and generate ~25,000 tCO2e of carbon credits per annum. The use of biochar will increase soil health and fertility while reducing the use of harmful chemical fertilizers. The biochar generated will be provided to the farmers to boost crop yield up to 30%, trials for the same have been carried out by PRESPL.
Lt. Col. Monish Ahuja, Founder, PRESPL and a leader in the renewable energy space said, “This strategic alliance with APChemi and Intellecap brings together perfectly complementary capabilities to address India’s burgeoning crop residue challenge. While PRESPL brings extensive biomass aggregation expertise and farmer networks across 21 states, APChemi contributes breakthrough pyrolysis technology, and Intellecap adds vital carbon finance knowledge. Together, our BiocharIND platform creates multiple value streams—enhancing soil health, generating carbon credits, and providing sustainable livelihoods—establishing a model for long-term ecological and economic transformation. We’re not just building a business, but fostering an ecosystem where farmers, environment, and industry all prosper together.”
Suhas Dixit, Founder, APChemi and a leading expert in pyrolysis technology said, “This partnership represents a perfect synergy of capabilities—PRESPL’s unparalleled biomass aggregation infrastructure, APChemi’s advanced pyrolysis technology, and Intellecap’s market-making expertise in environmental finance. Together, we’re creating India’s most comprehensive biochar ecosystem built for decades of impact. Our patented pyrolysis technologies and engineering excellence perfectly complement PRESPL’s biomass expertise and Intellecap’s financial innovation, enabling BiocharIND to develop scalable, cost-efficient and robust biomass pyrolysis platform. This long-term alliance establishes a sustainable blueprint for tackling agricultural waste while delivering multiple benefits across the value chain—from farmers to end consumers.”
Santosh K Singh, Managing Director-Climate and Energy, Intellecap said, “BiocharIND epitomizes the power of strategic collaboration—combining PRESPL’s biomass sourcing excellence, APChemi’s breakthrough pyrolysis capabilities, and our expertise in environmental markets and impact investing. This complementary partnership creates a robust foundation for a transformative platform that will scale systematically over the coming decades. Together, we’re not just creating carbon credits—we’re building a regenerative agricultural system that delivers lasting value to farming communities while addressing climate challenges. By aligning our respective strengths, we’ve established a partnership model that balances technical innovation, operational excellence, and financial sustainability for long-term impact.”
