Bollywood actress Avneet Kaur trends, Virat Kohli breaks silence after Instagram ‘like’ controversy

Virat Kohli has responded to a social media controversy that erupted after social media users noticed his verified Instagram account had liked a post on a fan page dedicated to actress Avneet Kaur. The seemingly minor interaction quickly gained traction online, sparking a flurry of reactions and unwarranted speculation—some of which even dragged Kohli’s wife, actress Anushka Sharma, into the discussion.

Amid the growing buzz, Kohli took to Instagram Stories to issue a brief but direct statement, clarifying the situation and urging fans not to jump to conclusions.

Without naming the actress or the post, he wrote, “I’d like to clarify that while clearing my feed, it appears the algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction. There was absolutely no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made. Thank you for your understanding.”

The ‘like’ in question has since disappeared, but the incident had already gone viral by then. While some users dismissed it as a harmless technical glitch or managerial error, others fuelled speculation, prompting Kohli’s response.

The clarification came just a day after Kohli posted a birthday message for Anushka.

On the cricketing front, Kohli is currently in top form with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2025 Indian Premier League. With seven wins in 10 matches, the RCB sit second on the points table, tied with Mumbai Indians on points but behind on Net Run Rate.

Kohli and his team are set to face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday night in Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, CSK have already been eliminated from the playoff race.
