NEP: Structural Changes Underway For Flawless Implementation

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): After encountering some practical problems in implementation of National Education Policy (NEP), the higher education department is making some structural changes so that NEP could be implemented in a flawless manner.

Already some work has been done related to structural changes and the remaining will be completed in coming time. From the next academic session, all kind of problems being faced in implementation of NEP will be resolved.

A senior officer of the higher education department said that the state is having University Act of 1973 in which NEP does not fit properly. Hence some practical problems have cropped up. For instance, NEP does not have Foundation Course but old university act finds mention of the foundation course.

Earlier, graduation was of three years but under NEP it will be of four years. ‘Some work has been done to infuse changes at the structural level. Under it, hybrid mode of studies will also be introduced for students. Valuation will be decentralised.

Moreover, e-content will be ensured,’ he said. This is for the first time that structural-level changes are being made in higher education.

Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar told Free Press that process is underway to amend University Act of 1973. Earlier some universities were run under the old act and later some more universities came into existence. Now all universities will be brought under one umbrella of the act.

Changes have been done in old exam pattern and new semester system so that NEP could be implemented in a hassle-free manner. Moreover, syllabus preparation work is also underway. So far, syllabus of four years has been prepared and fifth year’s syllabus is being prepared. Research is the base of NEP.

University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked institutions to ensure research facilities in the institutions. ‘People worldwide came up with their own principles by doing research work. We have principles but don’t have own research,’ he said and added that whatever the nature related research work is being floated across the world, it is already in Indian Vedas.

There is need to do research with evidence to prove things before the world. He informed that experts of Ancient Indian Knowledge prepared the syllabus. Talking about structural changes in higher education, he said that students doing four-year UG courses will have to do Post Graduation of one year.

Likewise, students who do three-year UG will have to do the 2-year PG course. It is from the next academic session, that new changes will be rolled out in higher education.
