Traffic police launch comprehensive road safety drive

The Chandigarh Traffic Police have undertaken a comprehensive road safety awareness campaign targeting a wide section of the community.

A dedicated Road Safety Awareness Session was conducted today at the Children Traffic Park for school bus drivers and helpers from Delhi Public School. More than 60 participants were educated on the importance of road discipline, especially in line with the STRAPS Policy designed to safeguard school children. The session was led by Parvesh Sharma, Inspector and in-charge of Children Traffic Park, Sector 23.

The session offered comprehensive guidance on the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and subsequent amendments, the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, and the Motor Vehicle Driving Regulations, 2017. The participants were informed about obeying traffic signals, maintaining speed limit, lane discipline, keeping proper documentation, designated parking areas and the necessity of routine pollution checks. They were also administered a road safety pledge, reinforcing their personal commitment to following the rules and contributing to safer roads.

The campaign did not limit itself to technical education but extended its vision to promoting an environmentally sustainable lifestyle and strengthening community bonds.

In recent days, the Chandigarh Traffic Police has conducted multiple awareness sessions across the city, engaging school students, NSS volunteers, school bus drivers, helpers and general public.

The events were aimed at not only teaching road discipline but also encouraging a culture of safety and empathy on the roads. In a session held at Aastha Society in Sector 48, over 60 residents participated. Organised in collaboration with the local police station and Samavesh teams, the session was led by SDPO South DSP Jaswinder Singh and SHO of PS-49, who, along with traffic police staff, sensitised residents about road safety protocols and responsible commuting behaviour.

Another session took place at Sanatan Dharam Mandir in Sector 45 on the occasion of Shri Parshuram Jayanti. The event specifically focused on women and children, drawing more than 175 attendees from the general public and highlighting the importance of community involvement in promoting safer roads.

Over 500 students and NSS volunteers from government schools in Manimajra, Khudda Jassu, Khudda Lahora, and Government Model High Schools in Sectors 29 and 35 were engaged in awareness and sensitisation efforts.
