Karnal’s two flyovers to be ready by 2026: Mayor
Mayor Renu Bala Gupta and former BJP district officiating president Brij Gupta on Saturday reviewed the progress of the two-elevated flyovers project in Karnal and directed officials to ensure its completion by December 2026, the official project deadline.
The Mayor expressed satisfaction with the pace of work. The project is expected to ease traffic congestion and improve mobility in the city.
Mayor Gupta said the construction is being executed by Krishna Construction Company at an estimated cost of Rs 122 crore. One flyover, extending from Rana Academy to Government College for Girls on Railway Road, will be 2.83 kilometres long and nine metres wide. It will rest on 60 pillars and significantly enhance connectivity in that part of the city. “This flyover will cover a major portion of the bazaar and will reduce traffic congestion. It will also offer parking facilities under the structure for shopkeepers and market visitors,” she said.
The second flyover will run from Maharishi Valmiki Chowk to Ambedkar Chowk, covering 937 metres, with the same width of nine metres. This structure will be supported by 25 pillars. Both flyovers are being constructed as two-lane roads without a central divider or footpath, the Mayor added.
As of now, structural work on 30 pillars has been completed and 22 pillars have already been fully constructed. Additionally, four pier caps have also been installed, marking consistent progress in the timeline of the project, she informed.
Mayor Gupta directed officials to ensure timely completion while strictly adhering to safety and quality standards.
