Pinegrove boys triumph at basketball tournament

The Pinegrove School Boys’ team emerged champions of the 13th All India Major Jagpal Memorial Junior Inter Public School Basketball Tournament, held at the Wg Cdr SS Gyani Memorial Sports Centre, Pinegrove School, Dharampur.

The tournament featured both boys’ and girls’ competitions. In a gripping finale marked by skill, teamwork and tenacity, the Pinegrove Boys secured a nail-biting 62–60 win over Strawberry Fields High School, Chandigarh, to lift the championship trophy.

Pinegrove’s Girls’ team also delivered a commendable performance, finishing as runners-up after a hard-fought match against The Shri Ram School, New Delhi, which concluded 44–28 in favour of the visiting side.

The campus echoed with celebration as Pinegrovians revelled in their success, embodying the spirit of sportsmanship and unity. Individual talent was also recognised at the tournament. Aarav Goyal of Pinegrove School, Solan, was named Best Player in the Boys’ category, while Vanshika Sharma earned the title of Best Upcoming Player among the Girls.

Ansh Saggar of Pinegrove and Riyansh Singh Bhatia of Strawberry Fields shared honours as Best Upcoming Players in the Boys’ category. Vivaan Chaudhary of Strawberry Fields emerged as the Highest Scorer among the Boys.

In the Girls’ division, Aanya Singh of The Shri Ram School, New Delhi, stood out by claiming both the Best Player and Highest Scorer awards, cementing her status as a standout performer of the tournament.

The event was graced by Srinivasan Sriram, the principal of The Mann School, Delhi, who served as the chief guest. Applauding the seamless organisation of the tournament and the exemplary conduct of all participants, he highlighted the life skills cultivated through sports — resilience, strategic thinking, teamwork, discipline and physical wellness. He urged young athletes to continue striving for excellence on and off the court.
