Teachers explore creative learning at CBSE workshop

A workshop on ‘Art Integration’ was organised by the CBSE Centre of Excellence (CoE), Panchkula, at Dayanand Public School on Saturday, aiming to equip teachers with innovative methods to integrate art forms into everyday teaching.

The primary objective of the workshop was to guide educators on how to use music, visual art, dance and theatre as tools to teach academic subjects effectively. The school principal, Anupam, along with resource persons Urvashi Bhatia and Dr Upasana Vashistha, were present at the event.

“Art integration is an approach to teaching where students construct understanding through creative expression. It allows learners to engage in a process that merges one art form with a subject area, fulfilling learning objectives in both,” said Dr Vashistha. She emphasised that this approach fosters creativity, imagination and critical thinking among students.

Dr Vashistha opened the workshop by underlining the importance of yoga and keeping students actively engaged in the classroom. The workshop was structured into four sessions.

In the first session, Urvashi Bhatia highlighted the significance of art integration in holistic education. She demonstrated physical activities including dance and music to illustrate how they can enhance student engagement. “The main goal of education is to support the all-round development of students and ensure classroom happiness. Teachers must consistently strive to make the teaching-learning process interesting,” said Bhatia.

Teachers were introduced to techniques for making lessons more engaging through songs. The relevance of all four language skills — listening, speaking, reading and writing — was discussed, alongside concepts such as Surtal and Sargam, and how these can be applied to classroom teaching.

The workshop concluded with teachers sharing feedback, reflecting on how creative strategies could be adopted in their own classrooms to make learning more enjoyable and effective.
