Class 11 Student Expelled From School In UP's Saharanpur For Removing Pakistani Flag From Road
A class 11 student from Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur was expelled from school after a video of her went viral showing her trying to remove a Pakistani flag pasted on a public road.
The incident sparked a controversy in the Gangoh area of the town where the incident took place, and people protested against the girl's action.
The student from Bahadur Nagar was on her way home on a scooter when she noticed the flag stuck in the middle of the road, reported News18. The flag was placed on the road by some groups in protest against the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack, where 26 civilians were killed.
The protest was intended as a symbolic act, allowing people to trample over the flag condemning Pakistan for the terrorist act.
However, the girl stopped and tried to remove the flag when she saw it on the road. Her actions were recorded by someone nearby, and the nearly 12-second video quickly went viral on social media.
As the video went viral, local social organisations protested agaisnt the girl's act calling it “anti-national". They claimed it was wrong to interfere with the protest symbol. They also visited the girl's school later in the day and demamded the students be expelled.
The school administration complied saying they wanted to avoid further controversy. School principal Bhupendra Singh said the girl was expelled adding an internal enquiry committee has been set up.
Teen Thrashed In UP
Last month, a 15-year-old boy was assaulted by some members of a right-wing group in UP's Aligarh district for a similar act. The boy was returning home from school when he picked up Pakistani flags placed on the road. The flags were placed by the members of the right-wing group to protest against the deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack.
When the protestors saw the boy picking up the flag, they abused him and started beating him. The protestors also forced him to apologise with folded hands and forced him to urinate on the Pakistani flag. The police took cognisance of the incident and said the matter was being probed.
