Minister of State for Railways and Minister of Jal Shakti Ministry V. Somanna confirmed this decision and said that Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has approved this proposal. There was strong lobbying of regional representatives behind this decision, which included MP Jagdish Shettar and Rajya Sabha member Iranna Kadadi under the leadership of Union Minister Prahlad Joshi. In March, this delegation met the Railway Minister in Delhi and demanded to connect Belgaum to the Vande Bharat network.

Till now Vande Bharat Express runs from Bengaluru to Hubli via Dharwad. But with this new extension, the train will now leave from Belgaum in the morning. However, the date of its formal inauguration has not been announced yet. According to railway officials, this step has been a long-standing demand of the public and now it is being implemented. V. Somanna said, “This will greatly facilitate the people of Kittur Karnataka region in commuting to Bengaluru, whether for work, studies or business.”

After this new expansion, Bangalore will now be connected to seven cities through Vande Bharat Express.
