Maharashtra Gramin Bank, Vidarbha Konkan Gramin Bank complete merger

Maharashtra Gramin Bank and Vidarbha Konkan Gramin Bank successfully completed the merger on May 1, 2025 (Maharashtra Day). With the aim of strengthening and solidifying the rural economy, the concept of “One State–One Rural Bank” was implemented by the government, and accordingly, through the merger of Maharashtra Gramin Bank and Vidarbha Konkan Gramin Bank, a single institution covering the entire State of Maharashtra—named Maharashtra Gramin Bank—was established on this historic day. A customer‑meet was conducted at the bank’s HO to commemorate the occasion. The sponsor bank for the newly formed Maharashtra Gramin Bank will be Bank of Maharashtra. Since the HO is geographically central—located at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar—it is conveniently accessible to everyone. Through 13 regional offices and 748 branches, over 3,000 employees and officers now serve customers. Spanning 34 districts of the State and handling total business of about Rs 44,000 crore, this bank’s founding objective will assuredly be realized, affirmed Milind Gharad, the bank’s chairperson. Former Union Minister of State for Finance and current Rajya Sabha Member Dr Bhagwat Karad, and Maharashtra’s Minister of Social Justice Sanjay Shirsat were chief guests at the ceremony.

Dr Karad elaborated on the purposes underlying the merger concept, urged the Bank to make every possible effort toward its success, and conveyed his best wishes for the venture. Shirsat congratulated the bank on having become “our bank” by delivering excellent customer service to rural, semi‑urban, and urban clients alike, and expressed his hope that it would continue to build its reputation and make significant contributions to the development of the State and, by extension, the nation.
